Our Mission for the Xpress Youth Football & Cheer Program
The Xpress Youth Football & Cheer mission is to create and administer a program that provides
opportunities for youths across Northern Rhode Island and neighboring Massachusetts Towns to learn
and play football in an age-appropriate, fun, and safe environment. Being a good community partner by
supporting the communities and families we serve is a critical component to our overall mission.
Our primary goals are to cultivate a love for football & Cheer, cultivate a culture of safety by investing in
our coaches and providing them with the appropriate training and equipment needed to respond to and
recognize emergencies on the field. Xpress Youth Football & Cheer is committed to safe play and player
safety is a standing order of business at every Board Meeting and Coaches Meetings.
With player safety as our top priority for our young athletes it allows us to focus on preparing the youth
athlete to develop their skills, be safe on the field, and be successful at the next level. We believe in
providing opportunities for our athletes and their families all year long.
Our prevailing philosophy is based on a belief in the guiding principles to prioritize safe play, broad skill,
athletic development, teamwork, and sportsmanship over winning. The program’s philosophy will
establish, guide, and support a culture in which ALL coaches accept the program’s mission and a resolute
commitment to reinforcing its goals. All Board members, coaches, and program volunteers serve as role
models and accept responsibility for creating an environment that emphasizes teaching the core values
of being safe, hard work, respect, inclusion, commitment, perseverance, responsibility and
accountability, family, and community.
Player & Family Benefits Associated with our Mission Statement
Motto: One Team, One Family atmosphere.
Player Safety: Coaches and Board Members provided with the training and equipment to recognize,
respond, and mitigate a medical emergency surrounding one of our players, parents, or spectators.
Player safety is the top priority for our organization. We are all in this together.
Fitness: Football & Cheer is a fast-moving game with a lot of variety. Players run, jump, quickly change
direction, stop and start, tumble, stunt etc. which all improve cardiovascular health. Players will take
part in drills, complex offensive and defensive maneuvers, cheer routines in which all encourage speed,
strength, and stamina. All these activities also engage motor skills, specifically hand and eye
coordination.
Teamwork: Youth football & Cheer teaches kids accountability, leadership, and the impact of positive
sportsmanship. Each position regardless of if you are a football player or cheerleader has a purpose. To
execute a play or routine successfully each individual needs to fulfill their responsibility, while working
together—a skill that’s valuable both on and off the field.
Discipline: Learning routes, repetitive drills, and executing proper technique take a high level of
discipline—and football players and cheerleaders do it time and time again. Each practice lays the
foundation for a strong work ethic that kids will use throughout their lives and is one of the biggest
benefits of being part of this sport.
Mental toughness: Football & Cheer are great platforms to build mental toughness. Whether it’s making
a mistake on the field / mat or needing to comeback from a major upset, setbacks are bound to happen.
To move forward, players must learn how to persevere. Football & Cheer provides a lot of opportunities
to improve mental toughness, from remaining calm under pressure to focusing during chaotic
situations.
Socialization: Football & Cheer teaches kids how to effectively communicate and work well with others.
After all, one player can’t do everything. Our kids rely on each other to overcome adversity and create
long lasting friendships as a result that goes beyond the playing field. Kids will also receive direction
from their coaches and will learn to be respectful and can accept instructions / constructive criticism
from others which will help them later in life with becoming part of a productive society.
